The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) is a cash transfer programme introduced by the Government of Ghana (GoG) in 2008, for extremely poor and vulnerable households which have the following three categories; Orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC), Persons with severe disability without any productive capacity and elderly people who are 65 years and above.

Since the formation of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly from the erstwhile East Akim Municipal Assembly in June 2018, the LEAP programme has impacted some 255 beneficiary households in 9 communities within the Municipality.

The 68th LEAP Payment cycle which was made on October 8, 2020 was the last of five payment cycles made in the year 2020, in which a total amount of Ghc24,435.00 was made to 255 beneficiary households in 9 communities.

The nine beneficiary communities are Anweabeng, Anyinasin, Ettukrom, Kukurantumi, Nobi, Old Tafo, New Tafo, Osiem and Tontro.

Present to facilitate the payment was the LEAP Coordinator of the Municipality, Cynthia Agaah who charged beneficiaries to use the monies received wisely in improving their household consumption and nutrition thereby reducing poverty related sicknesses and malnutrition.
