Covid-19 PREVENTION: “You Will Be Fined For Refusing Mask Wearing” MCD.

The municipal coordinating director of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Mrs Ruth Woode, in her presentation of a report from the executive committee (EXECO) of the assembly at the second session of the second general assembly of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly’s first ordinary meeting held on Wednesday, 31st March,2021 at the Assembly Hall in Akyem Kukurantumi, has it that, refusal to wear facemask will attract a fine of Twenty Ghana Cedis (GHC20) or undertake a manual labour or both as determined by the COVID 19 taskforce.

She explained that, compliance with COVID 19 protocols in the municipality especially facemasks wearing at public places is not encouraging hence the need to intensify the education and strict enforcement of the protocols.

Mrs Ruth Woode added that, stakeholders including religious and traditional bodies should be engaged by Social Services Sub-Committee on the implementation of the COVID 19 protocols to enhance the implementation and compliance.

The municipal coordinating director, concluded by expressing her profound gratitude to the honourable assembly members and all present at the session and admonished all to carry on with the same energy towards the development of the municipality and not to relent on their efforts to sensitise the general public to observe the COVID 19 safety measures.

In attendance were, HonourableGiftyTwum-Ampofo, MP, Mr Emmanuel AsareGyekye, PM, Mrs Ruth Woode, MCD,  Honourable assembly members, government appointees, departmental heads, stakeholders, opinion leaders and the press.

Abuakwa North from January 1st, 2021 to March 31st, 2021 tested sixty-seven (67) suspected COVID -19 cases of which twenty-five (25) persons tested positive all the twenty- five (25) persons have recovered living no active case with seven results pending. This was disclosed by the health directorate.
