DAYCARE PROPRIETORS TRAINED ON CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFETY STANDARDS.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development organized a training programme for daycare Centre proprietors on June 2, 2026, at the Municipal Assembly Hall in Kukuramtumi. The initiative aimed to enhance operators’ knowledge of child protection, safety protocols, legal responsibilities, and the Department’s regulatory oversight. With the rise in private daycare facilities, the training sought to address growing concerns about care quality and compliance with national standards.

The programme was facilitated by a team of experts including Regional Social Welfare Officers Miss Rebecca Tetteh, Mr. Abdelah Mohammed, and Miss Priscilla Newton, alongside Mr. Joseph Henry from the Education Directorate and Barima Adu Gyamfi from the Ghana Health Service.Participants were taken through three key areas: child rights and protection services, legal frameworks governing daycare operations, and the mandate of the Department of Social Welfare to regulate, monitor, and enforce compliance. The sessions provided practical guidance on creating safe, child-friendly environments and meeting licensing requirements.

Miss Alhasan Abdulai Mamatta, Head of the Administration Department, represented the Municipal Director and encouraged proprietors to apply the knowledge gained to improve standards in their facilities. She emphasized that the training was a critical intervention to safeguard children and hinted at future monitoring exercises to assess compliance. Proprietors were urged to view the Department as a partner in delivering quality early childhood care.

The Department expressed confidence that the programme would lead to improved safety and welfare standards across daycare centres in the Municipality. Participants welcomed the opportunity, with many pledging to review their operations and implement the recommendations. Follow-up sessions and routine inspections are expected to ensure sustained adherence to the standards discussed
