Municipal Wide – Saturday, April 4, 2020: In line with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s directives for all Markets, Lorry Parks and all other Public Event Centres to be disinfected in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a disinfection exercise was undertaken in the Abuakwa North Municipality in the following areas:
- Kukurantumi Market and all Stores around it
- Kukurantumi Lorry Station and all shops around it
- Municipal Assembly premises
- Palaces (Kukurantumi, Old Tafo and Osiem)
- Zonal Council Office and CHPS Compound (Kukurantumi, New Tafo, Old Tafo and Osiem)
- New Tafo Market and surrounding shops
- New Tafo Lorry Station and all stores around it
- New Tafo Post Office
- New Tafo Durbar Grounds
- District Police Offices / Stations (New Tafo, Kukurantumi and Osiem)
- Tafo Government Hospital
- Old Tafo Market and all stores around it
- Old Tafo Lorry Station and all shops around it
- Anyinasin Lorry Station and stores around it
- Anyinasin Market and Stores around it
- Osiem Lorry Station and all stores around it
- Osiem Market 1
- Saviour (Gyidi) Market, Osiem
- Ettokrom Market and surroundings
The exercise was conducted by the Zoomlion Ghana Limited with support from the Municipal Assembly played a significant role at ensuring the success of the entire disinfection exercise. The Assembly provided fueled vehicles which was used to convey personnel, equipment and chemicals to and fro the various locations during the exercise. It also provided financial and vehicle support for the sensitization of the stakeholders and the general public on the exercise. Also, the Assembly also provided nose masks to augment that of the Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the monitoring team during the exercise.
There was a Monitoring Team headed of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Owusu Twum-Ampofo and the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Jeremiah Agyekum Amoafo. The team also included Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, Akyem Tafohene, Hon. Emmanuel Gyekye Asare, Presiding Member of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, Municipal Manager of the Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Honourable Assembly Members of the areas where the exercise took place, Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and National Ambulance Service, and some Heads of Departments and Units of the Assembly including the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit. The team was present to ensure that the disinfection exercise was carried out without any hitches.
